Can't simulate an LCD with pic18f27q10

Good morning,
I'm trying to simulate an LCD to just print "hello world" using a pic18f27q10 in Proteus. The code is know to work with other MCU of the pic18f series/family. It doesn't work when using this pic. A colleague has apparently ot it working by connecting a a crystal and configuring the oscillator but I've had no look.
Just trying to determine if it's a code related problem or if it's simulation or if I'm just doing something plain wrong.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated
