PCB milling machine/router

Post by fennelly »

Hi,

I am looking for a PCB milling machine/router that will work with Proteus.

Board size of approx 6 inch by 8 inch would be sufficient.

The intend to use is for undergrad student projects and prototypes. The projected workload would be approx 90 boards per year .

Any recommendations - make - models etc?
Anything to watch out for/avoid?

I use one made by Bungard, bought from Mega in Cambridge. This is its product page. It's been running for several years now without problems, but we chemical etch, so only drill with it. It's fast and precise, handles the drill files from ARES fine (all that needs to be done is set a 1/10 scale factor for the dimensions), and you can stack the boards four deep if you're making lots of identical PCBs.

We use ours for mainly for supporting our undergraduate teaching, so we do hundreds of batch-made PCBs for lab work, make bespoke teaching equipment and individual projects.

Where are you based? If you're near Birmingham, you're welcome to come and see it drilling PCBs.

I've recently looked at a company called LPKF as well (I like their hole-plating ink system). Here's a link to their site.
