Turn off rendering of 3D model in 3D board view

Post by janneman47 »

Question: is it possible to turn off the rendering of the 3D model for a package in the 3D board rendering?

I have some 'pin' parts that I want to show as just the hole in the 3D rendering, but there's always some form of physical pin visible.
I can change that but as far as I can see, I can't turn it off.
The checkbox 'show component' in the 3D dialog screen only controls visibility in that dialog screen, not in the 3D board rendering.

Hi Jan,

for an "in place 3D proteus constructor" (geometric description), simply specify in model parameters list :
TYPE=NONE

Nota : doing that hide 3D model for all parts of the board that share the same 3D model...

Thanks Remy, I'll try that.
I did find a work around: in the file name slot for the .step model file, just enter some gibberish.
Then, Proteus can't find that file of course and does not render any 3D model.
But your solution is more elegant.

More elegant still...

Have a schematic symbol that corresponds with a footprint.
Create a variant that shows all the footprints that you want visible, and hides the rest.
Switch to the relevant variant whilst in the 3D viewer.

When you output a STEP model, only the parts in the variant will be present in the model.
This also applies to BOMs, Gerbers, ODB++, assembly plots, etc.
