D-Type Flip Flop Circuit

Hi,
I am trying to make a counter which repeats a certain pattern. I managed to do this by using D Flip Flops (you can see the full circuit down there). Now I am trying to same thing by not using anything but logic gates so I had to rearrange the D Flip Flop circuits with only logic gate which I did. Problem is when I replaced flip flops with logic gate circuits, circuit does not start. I think it needs an initial state. But I do not know how to give it. Could you please help me? You can also see my logic gate circuit for D type flip flops below.
