RS Components are now providing a Component foot print for their components.
The file is loaded into Library Loader software, when then converts footprints for various software:
Seems like a good idea except Proteus is not on the list
Are we likely to see Proteus being added to the list of ECAD tools, rather than being left out in cold?
Would be great if it could happen as it would save time creating foot print from scratch.
Thank you
Martin
Proteus & Library Loader
Re: Proteus & Library Loader
We are talking to them about this, but don't have any details or timescales at the moment.
Meanwhile, PADS ASCII (e.g. PCB Library Expert) for layout and BSDL for schematic are supported for 3rd party import.

Re: Proteus & Library Loader
Thanks for your reply Iain.
I will look into what you suggested but its not as handy as selecting component to purchase, download footprint at the same time.
I will just wait until Proteus is added to list?

Re: Proteus & Library Loader
Hi,
Library Loader data is provided by RS Components and other distributors.
It is supposed to be able to produce PADS output, which Proteus is supposed to be able to import.
Has anyone been able to actually create a PADS file this way ?
I get all the following windows / error messages :
cheers, Beau

Re: Proteus & Library Loader
I think the Samacsys tool is attempting to remote launch the CAD software and import natively as opposed to saving the PADS file to disc where it can be imported to any CAD package.
We had prioritised compatibility with Ultralibrarian / Digikey (via PADS ASCII) but Library management and library parts are very much a focus for us in the next few releases so we may be able to improve further with this. I will speak with dev.

Re: Proteus & Library Loader
Thanks for both replies Iain,
I always seem to be designing with chips for which there is nothing in the libraries, this is becoming a significant issue for me now.
cheers, Beau
